Dispatches from women in Afghanistan

My name is Neda, and I am an Afghan-born journalist. For the next few months I will be telling you about the Afghan women whose lives have been affected by the rise of the Taliban regime. They can not continue their activities as before. They are either forced to live without any freedom under the strict Taliban rules or to leave their homeland. I am passionate about telling their stories because each of them is like a mirror where I can see my past. More than twenty years ago, when the Taliban was first in power, I had been in the same situation. I was like a bird in a cage. Except for a diary and a pen, I had nothing to express myself. So, now I can better understand other Afghan women and I would like to be their voice. One day I will share with you my personal story as well because I am also a part of the journey…
